Orthopedic Physician treating adults and children

Intercoastal Medical Group

HAND & WRIST

There are 206 bones in the adult body and 27 of them are in your hand and wrist making it no surprise that people may suffer a condition here in their lifetime. Most of these disorders are treated conservatively with physical therapy, splints, or injections. Traumatic injuries may cause damage to a nerve, vessel, muscle, tendon, ligament, joint, or bone. Surgery may be necessary in certain cases. Severe injuries or arthritis sometimes call for joint replacement and Dr. Gordon is an expert in this field.

Pediatric Orthopedics

Children are our most precious resource and it’s important they receive specialized care by Dr. Gordon. Newborns come into the world with more cartilage than bone, making it easier to pass through the birth canal. Their “skeleton” is made up of about 300 parts of bone and cartilage elements which fuse together as they grow. These eventually form into 206 bones as an adult. Children’s bodies have different reactions to injuries, infections, and disorders because they are still in growth stages. Dr. Gordon is a Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist and an expert in treating disorders of the skeleton, muscles, and joints in children. Youth sports can result in a multitude of orthopedic injuries (most treated non operatively) and Dr. Gordon’s effective communication with children results in a more comfortable experience for your child.

Michael J. Gordon, MD, FAAOS, provides exceptional treatment for the upper extremities, including the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He treats both adults and children of any age.

Shoulder & Elbow

Two of the most common problems in the elbow are referred to as tennis or golfers’ elbow. These are both usually treated without surgery. Fortunately, many other elbow conditions are also treated without surgery. A frequent cause of shoulder pain is a rotator cuff tear. This can be more common with aging, yet many people may have a tear without pain. Minimally invasive surgery is an option when physical therapy and injections do not improve the condition and the pain or weakness affects your quality of life.
